Could you tell us something about yourself?
Uhm... I'm a working 19 year old college student, who often falls of the face of the deviantART because of work, school, and being pre-med.
How and when did you find out about vexels?
When I was 17, sooo 2008. And I found out because my best friend, was like "hey jes.. since you don't edit (on Palace anymore), and you need to get out some creativity.. why don't you vex?" "What..?"
Are there any vexel projects you're currently working on?
Yes, one - but I don't want to give it away at the moment
Since you have some vectors in your gallery as well do you find yourself more as a vexel or vector artist? Which one do you like working with more?
I consider myself a vexel artist, but in all honesty I still get confused on which is what, and have to ask my friend who got me started. Its kind of weird, because I mix both of the styles together to get a final piece. So I'm in this weird place - but for simplicity, I just call myself a digital artist. I think I like working with vectors more, because I like doing everything on a couple of layers.
Did making vexels help you somehow in your school/job projects?
Definately not - haha. But When I take time to vex, it calms be down, brings my mind down to ease so I can study easier.
How would you describe your style?
I'm.. still in the process of searching. I look at some vexs and vectors and I'm like "Oh I want to try that.." or "that curvy cartoon style looks nice." But, a realist, but at the same time - I don't take a picture and use it so people can just say "oh she just vexed that photo". I make it my own.
Are there any artists you look up to?
OMG. yess -This Doll artist, Nicolabear. She inspired me from editting on palace to where I am now - my piece Nicole is actually dedicated and named after her. And of course there is Womanwithagun, Sashas, jaalondon, lolita-art, CQcat, uniquedee, flashparade - the list goes on and on.
What inspires you?
Color. Being different. Being upset makes me vex - that shouldn't be a reason, but I usually vex better if I'm angry or upset.
Are there any vexels in your gallery that you like the most? If yes, could you tell us why they are so important to you?
In all honesty, after finishing my works, I generally develop some kind of.. dispassion for all of them just because I've been staring at them for hours on days.. But I really like First Lady, alot because it was my biggest challenge - because I dont do male vexels, because I don't want to deal with the harshness of muscles and bodies. But I like First Lady the most because, her face is so smooth, and I was taking a serious step out the box with her outfit, tights, hair, ornaments, and muscular legs. Chances are - I'll redo it later, but I'm still proud of it.
Any tips for people who have just began their journey with vexel art?
Don't let your friends nominate you for something where people have to critique your artwork. Don't let your friends read you the critique. Be blissfully happy and ignorant in your own work. You know if there is something wrong, wasn't blended well enough or something that you don't like - you made it.
